Upon deciding to undertake a gut renovation of their longtime home, our client’s first request was to arrive back to their home and be “Wowed” by the transition. The challenge was set to transform this once dated home into a sophisticated European styled environment. Using warm toned woods, rich stonework, jewel-toned colorations, and incorporating bespoke artisan features, the designer developed a harmonious theme.
Upon entering, guests are welcomed into a grand entertaining space warmed by lightly washed French Oak floors in a Hungarian point pattern, selected to intentionally guide views and visually connect spaces. A suspended bespoke light sculpture crafted of hand-blown glass in hues of deep aubergine anchoring the living room is centrally located. Below on an abstract swirl pattern in the rug is renforced with a serpentine sofa in soft charcoal leather.
In an otherwise open space plan, a centrally positioned wine room framed in dark bronze metalwork with inserts of smoky toned glass was designed as a unifying element. Adjacent in the dining room the designer envisioned asymmetrical custom dining tables in two sizes, finished in a high-gloss light Aubergine tone reinforced by a sculptural light fixture above. The tables allow an intimate dinner for four, or a grand dinner seating fourteen.
The kitchen was relocated from a dark corner to a larger area with natural light. Designed to meet the needs of the homeowner, an accomplished chef, substantial storage, and integrated appliances surround a central work island, while a racetrack shaped serving island provides separation.
